Artist's Comments

i did this because i wasn't sure that my body of work actually shows that i can paint and that i can do realism, i just choose not to.

mostly because i had a argument with a coworker about how realism isn't that hard and that it's boring to look at, also that it challenges the artist more than the audience, and i feel that i would rather make people think than to just paint a landscape with pretty mountains and perfect lighting. i think it's a good painted skull, but in the end, it's just a skull.

3.5 x 3

watercolor.

First of all..you can paint, so you get mad respect from me. The painting itself is really nice looking and the shading (do you call it that in a painting?) looks nice too. I love this piece..I'm just wondering it seems like a bit of the bottom got cut off?

yeah, the bottom was just empty white paper so i cropped it, it was just a sketchbook painting so i thought it was unnecessary.

"it challenges the artist more than the audience"

i never thought of that....

I love that you kept the piece with the paint color tests. I really love the skull!

I agree, I am struggling with the same thing in my school's portfolio class. I like to make the viewer think with my work, so my concentration mixes realism with surrealism.

i realli try to do realism but always end up copying somone and even then its hard. but i get wat u mean by the fact that its boring to look at, which is really true hnce i stik wiht the abstrct and surrealism stuff
